Become a better teacher

Wouldn't we all like to become better teachers? Wouldn't it be nice if we could just snap our fingers or make a wish on an eyelash every time we wanted to improve?

Unfortunately, becoming a better teacher is not something that can happen overnight. It takes time, patience, skill, and dedication. One way you can get on the road to becoming a better teacher, however, is to attend the trainings that your school and publisher (in this case, Cambridge University Press) offer.

Take advantage of these workshops and seminars. Even if the topic is something you feel you already know "enough" about, or doesn't pertain to you directly, there is a lot to be learned from these training sessions:

  • You can get ideas for activities by paying close attention to the activities in the training.
  • You can meet other teachers and network with them. You never know when knowing someone could give you the big break you are looking for.
  • And even if you just pay attention to the things the trainer is doing wrong, you can learn a lot about presence in the classroom and how you can do better when in front of your class.

So stop your wishful thinking and make becoming a better teacher a priority for 2010!
